Written in the first person from the point of view of Angela Crossley the woman who will lead the hunt for the killer who is preying on his young victims with terrible efficiency. This is a novel not for the faint hearted, written with at times blunt and modern phrasing Vincent is unafraid to tell us it how it is. The stark horror of what takes place offset by cold examination of both the procedural and investigative work needed to trap a paedophile killer [Who always seems to be one step ahead] will take you on a ride, which you are unlikely to forget. For more information please read the review below. A REVIEW by Derek G. This book will shock and at times upset you! It’s bound to. The subject itself is both shocking and upsetting, made more so by the matter-of-fact tone of the everyday language used to describe the events by the leading character. The story is set in the West Midlands and begins when W. P.C. Angela Crossley meets Sylvia Rowden who tells her that her daughter Connie is psychic and has been having the most terrifying visions of a paedophile abducting and murdering young girls. Co-incidentally a young girl is missing from her home and the entire West Midlands Police Force is currently searching every inch of the area in their efforts to find her. Angela’s superior officer, who introduced them, is sceptical, hasn’t the time to deal with fanciful visions or hysterical women. He decides to offload the woman onto the new W. P.C. with instructions “To be kept informed”. After she meets Connie Rowden, Angela becomes convinced, despite her own strong scepticism about psychic phenomena, that she may be able to help the police find the missing girl, perhaps even others………… From this very unpromising start develops an extraordinary story. Full of frustrating twists and turns, it will hold your attention despite creating at the same time a deep feeling of unease and a real fear that such awful things could happen in a street near you. The story becomes more believable with every page turned, almost to the point where the reader too accepts the existence of Connie’s psychic powers. The patient, meticulous Police work is described with authority and in detail, as are the relationships between the characters. Though some of the more graphic descriptions of the crimes will make your flesh creep you will find it difficult to put this book down once you start to read it. Was Connie really psychic? Did they catch the paedophile killer? And what effect did the whole affair have them all?………..I’m not saying! Vincent Cobb, the author, has produced a book in simple language that tells a powerful story. It will arouse great emotions and add fuel to the debate on this evil and most disturbing of all crimes. I wouldn’t want his post-bag after the book is published! |
